JCPenney's Human Resources Development (HRD) department sought to provide associates with additional training support once they left the classroom. "Qarbon's Viewlets provided what we needed and complemented our initiative of providing flexible material to our associates."

The changing retail landscape has led JCPenney to develop software and systems solutions to maintain a competitive edge. Traditionally, once systems training was completed an associate left the classroom with a manual and their notes. However, manuals and notes often prove too time consuming to refer back to for associates who are used to the fast paced retail environment. "When learning a system, our associates want an instructional resource that is quick and packed with informational value, and Viewlets provide just that." Steve Toledo, Distance Learning Instructor.

Authoring Viewlets is very easy and fast, which allows the JCPenney HRD instructors to keep up to date on any software enhancements. Instead of bringing all their associates back to the classroom for updates, Viewlets are posted on their intranet or emailed.

JCPenney is also concerned about ROI. Viewlets were recently introduced to the on-boarding process, where Store Management trainees previously viewed a 30-minute distance-learning broadcast on how to use their FirstClass community of practice platform. Today, new Management trainees watch Viewlets about FirstClass, providing just-in-time information, allowing them to be more productive and manage their time more effectively.

The success of the program has lead JCPenney to integrate Viewlets into other on-boarding procedures,
providing just-in-time support resources for tasks ranging from corporate emailing to benefits enrollment.
The goal is to increase an associate's speed to position by providing animated demos. This has made it easier for both trainees and instructors to use their time more efficiently, allowing them to focus on the business activities that drive revenue.
